Curriculum Vitae
Fabian Schinerl studied Law at the University of Vienna from 2017 to 2022. In recognition of his academic performance, he was repeatedly awarded merit scholarships by the University of Vienna and by the Hochschulstiftung für Hörerinnen und Hörer der Rechte.
Since March 2022, he has been a University Assistant at the Department of European Law, International Law and Comparative Law at the University of Vienna. In February 2026, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Laws (Dr iur). His doctoral thesis, "The Dichotomy between Financial Instruments and Crypto-Assets", examines the legal boundary between these two categories.
His research focuses on banking and capital markets law, with particular emphasis on fintech and crypto-assets. He also works on payment services law and private law more broadly.
Alongside his academic work, he spent several years as a research assistant at a leading Vienna law firm. He also serves as Coordinator of the Young Researchers Group of the European Banking Institute (EBI YRG) and is a member of the Centre for Comparative Corporate Finance Law (C3FL) and the Junior Network of the Association Européenne pour le Droit Bancaire et Financier (AEDBF).
