Curriculum vitae

Univ.-Ass. Patrik Marek, LL.M., MSc studied Business Law at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) from 2016 to 2022, where he completed both the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and the Master's degree in Business Law (LL.M.). In addition, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Economic and Social Sciences (BSc) from WU Vienna in 2020 and a Master's degree in Business Administration (MSc.) from the University of Vienna. During his Master's studies in Business Law, he focused on competition law, mergers & acquisitions, IT law, constitutional adjudication, legal theory, as well as the economics of competition and game theory.

Since 2022, he has been continuing his studies in Business Administration (MSc) at the University of Vienna, specialising in Business Law, International Financial Accounting, and Economic Sociology. His Master's theses explored, on the one hand, the modes of infringement under Art. 101(1) TFEU in the context of algorithmic pricing mechanisms, and on the other hand, the expansion of EU cartel fine liability to parent companies in private equity structures.

He gained practical experience through legal internships, including in tax consultancy and at a law firm in Upper Austria specialising in civil and corporate law. He completed his mandatory court practice in Vienna, serving at the District Court, the Regional Criminal Court, and the Labour and Social Court.

In spring 2025, he completed the Master’s programme in Business Administration at the University of Vienna. Since 2024, Patrik Marek has been working as a university assistant (prae doc) at the Department of European, International and Comparative Law.

His doctoral thesis is entitled: “The Effectiveness of Information Obligations in EU Consumer Protection – Analysing New Technologies to Enhance the Level of Protection”, focusing inter alia on AI-based solutions.
