Curriculum vitae

Univ.-Ass. Roos Fransen, LL.M, LL.B studied Law at Leiden University from 2018 to 2022, where she completed the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B). Her bachelor thesis concerned the instrumentalization of third-country migrants at the European Union Borders and EU’s response. She further studied the master’s in International Law at the University of Vienna from 2022 to 2024, obtaining her Masters in Law (LL.M) in September 2024. During her Masters, she specialized in European law, the law of armed conflict, diplomatic law and international investment law and arbitration, international politics and treaty law. In her master thesis, she researched the principle of individual reparations for victims of violations of international humanitarian law by States.

She gained practical experience through internships in a large Amsterdam-based law firm, the legal office of the OSCE and additionally has experience working in both the financial and energy sector, through her time at a large consulting firm and energy company.

Her research focuses primarily on the intersections between international humanitarian law, international criminal law and human rights law. In European Law she works on sustainability, the geopolitical position of the Union and fundamental rights. Her dissertation, titled Reparation for Civilian Victims of Violations of International Humanitarian Law by States in Armed Conflict, focuses on the application of the principle of reparation in different contexts and fields of international law.
