The morning session was opened by Professor Sturma (Special Rapporteur of the United Nations International Law Commission) with a round table discussion on the topic of “State Succession and State Responsibility”. Celine Braumann and Professor Reinisch commented on his input which was then followed by a joint lunch combined with an intensive discussion.
The joint meeting resumed with Dr. Tymofeyeva providing an input on the due diligence obligations of States based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The topic of investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) reform and the proposals for a permanent investment tribunal was tackled in the final presentation. Jose Magnaye and Clemens Treichl gave an overview of the current debate and the participants were highly engaged in the ensuing discussion. Finally, a long day of stimulating exchange of ideas was concluded with a joint dinner.
