Success for the Viennese Team at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court 2021

The Section for International Law is proud to announce that the University of Vienna’s team represented Austria at the 2021 Jessup Global Rounds, the biggest ever international moot court competition, with great success. The hard work of the team, consisting of Laura Gotcheva, Johannes Pokieser, Julia Kern and Javier Olivares Guerrero, and coached by two members of the Section for International Law, Johannes Tropper and Sara Mansour Fallah, was recognized with the following awards:

  • White & Case Advanced Rounds Team – advanced after Preliminary Rounds as one of 168 out of 574 teams (ranked 82nd)
  • Hardy C. Dillard Award Winners – 35th Best Combined Memorials out of 574 teams (recording the University’s second-best memorial score in the past 15 years)
  • Top 100 Oralist in Preliminary Rounds (Javier Olivares Guerrero) – ranked 49th out of more than 2000 oralists

The team also secured competitive rankings in this Competition featuring 574 law schools from all over the world, including all four team members ranking in the top 25% of all preliminary rounds oralists and two team members being among the top 25% of all advanced rounds oralists.

Over six weeks of virtual competition, 574 teams from 90 countries competed in 2,036 matches accounting for more than 3,000 hours of argument resulting in the largest-ever gathering of international law students and lawyers.
